FORGE DELIVERS
Park & Landscape Structures
FORGE designs and constructs custom outdoor structures for parks and public spaces.
High complexity, high profile and high stakes in the heart of Adelaide. FORGE was appointed by Walker Corporation in July 2021 to develop, prototype, fabricate and install a series of 16 spectacular and highly intricate hexagonal arbours.
FORGE designs and constructs custom outdoor structures for parks and public spaces, working with architects, councils, developers and landscape teams to turn unique project requirements into buildable outcomes. From custom amenities and BBQ shelters to shade structures, seating, site furniture and other bespoke park elements, we create solutions that respond to the site, design vision and the way people use outdoor spaces.
Our team brings together design expertise, practical construction knowledge and careful consideration of materials, durability, functionality and budget to deliver structures that are made for their surroundings and built to last.
Park & Landscape Structure Case Studies
-
Elara Playing Fields
Elara Playing FieldsFORGE developed a bespoke application of Kaynemaile acrylic mesh for the building’s sweeping curves, a solution never previously used in this way or at this scale. Each panel was precisely shaped and installed to create a striking vaulted finish, resulting in a one-of-a-kind public space structure that combines architectural impact, durability and functionality.
-
M12 Eucalypt Leaf Canopies
M12 Eucalypt Leaf CanopiesFORGE worked with Balarinji to bring a culturally significant vision to life through eight bespoke eucalypt leaf shade canopies along Sydney’s M12 Motorway. Inspired by Dharug Country and designed by local Indigenous artists, the intricate structures required custom engineering and prototyping to transform the artistic vision into buildable outdoor structures. Featuring curved aluminium panels and integrated lighting, the canopies create a distinctive connection to Country while providing functional shade.
-
Dawson Mall Arbour, Mount Druitt
Dawson Mall Arbour, Mount DruittFORGE delivered a striking custom arbour for the transformation of Dawson Mall in Mount Druitt, NSW. Featuring interconnected curved steel tubes, hand-wound coloured rope and integrated LED lighting, the structure required extensive prototyping and innovative construction methods to turn an ambitious concept into a buildable reality. The result is a distinctive public space structure that provides shade, identity and a strong visual connection to the revitalised town centre.
Design, Project and Collaboration Delivery
-
How long does it take for FORGE to design and construct custom landscape structures?
Every project is unique so there’s no general rule. It may be just a few months for a simple structure on an easy-to-access site. Then again, it can be considerably longer from concept to completion for more complex applications where thorough design and site investigations are required. Large or small, the key to a streamlined project outcome is early engagement with all key stakeholders and ongoing collaboration.
-
How does FORGE ensure bespoke design visions can actually be built without being comprised?
Successfully delivering custom designs requires careful planning, ideally beginning with collaboration at the earliest stages of your project. By engaging relevant delivery specialists early, FORGE helps you and your project partners identify and mitigate potential projects risks long before they become real-world problems requiring expensive re-working or variations. Options can be explored, designs and materiality tested, and delivery methodologies refined to ensure you and your stakeholders get the project outcome you expect.
-
What is FORGE’s process for delivering a custom projects from design to installation?
The FORGE Methodology is built upon a wholistic delivery offering that combines specialist design and design verification, structural engineering, manufacturing methodology, risk mitigation, planning capability, pre-assembly, project management and construction expertise, all from one team. Time and again we see the most successful project outcomes when our team is engaged early in the development process.
-
Do you collaborate with landscape architects, engineers and local authorities?
Absolutely, in fact we find the more collaboration on outdoor infrastructure projects the better, especially in the critical early design stages of the project. By partnering up-front with all key stakeholders and delivery experts we can collaboratively identify the very best solution for your vision, schedule and budget long before you need to commit to a construction contract. The result is almost always a higher quality and more cost-effective project outcome.
Site, Safety & Experience
-
Can custom structures be manufactured and pre-assembled off-site for quicker installation?
Yes they can and in many cases that’s exactly what we recommend and do for all of our projects. By intentionally designing these access structures in modular form where possible, the main structural elements can often be fully or partially pre-assembled in controlled conditions off-site. This maximises quality while also minimising installation time. The result is greater savings and reduced community disruptions.
-
How does FORGE ensure safety and compliance for public structures?
Safety is central to every project decision at FORGE and begins with the initial design of your structure. Considerable thought is given to both structural integrity and user security. From an engineering perspective, every structure must be designed in line with all relevant AS codes and guidelines, ensuring they withstand not only the weight of pedestrian traffic but also environmental factors such as soil conditions, wind and weather, tides and potential flooding events.
-
Which regions or states do you service for bespoke landscape structures and amenity structures?
Each year FORGE delivers bespoke landscape structures in communities across Australia. With dedicated national pre-assembly facilities and local project delivery teams around Australia, we work extensively with clients across metropolitan and regional areas in all states including New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT.
-
How do site conditions affect the design and construction process?
Large or small, site conditions play a significant role in every outdoor project, particularly in terms of maximising design life, access and user safety. The site and surrounding conditions will typically have a very direct influence on the way your structure is detailed, specified and installed. It’s essential that every community structure is fit-for-purpose to each unique location.
