FORGE DELIVERS
Public Art Installations
FORGE specialises in delivering art-integrated urban infrastructure. Each year we partner with artists, architects and councils to deliver public sculpture installation services that combine creative expression with engineering precision.
Blacktown is the fastest-growing LGA in NSW. To provide expanded public spaces and much-needed community facilities, Blacktown City Council approved the $27 million transformation of the Mount Druitt Town Centre in late 2019
Our expertise lies in transforming bold artistic concepts into safe, durable and buildable structures - manufactured and installed with the same discipline we apply to major infrastructure projects. Using our proprietary FORGE Methodology, we provide complete certainty in cost, feasibility and delivery from the earliest design stages.
Whether it's large-scale sculptural landmarks, interactive public art structures or integrated streetscape features, FORGE brings together design sensitivity, material innovation and technical rigour to bring artistic visions to life. Every urban art installation project is delivered with care, compliance and craftsmanship - built to inspire, engage and endure in the public realm.
Public Art Installation Case Studies
-
Adelaide Festival Plaza Arbours
Adelaide Festival Plaza ArboursFORGE was appointed by Walker Corporation following a competitive design tender. The brief was to develop and construct an enchanting series of 16 large-scale public arbours as part of the multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Adelaide Festival Plaza.
The bespoke hexagonal design was hugely intricate with a complex mosaic of perforated mesh panelling. A full-scale prototype was required to ensure the designs could be built exactly as they appeared on paper.

M12 Leaf Canopies
M12 Leaf CanopiesCollaborating with Indigenous design and strategy agency Balarinji, FORGE detailed, tested and installed a series of giant ‘eucalypt leaf’ shade canopies along the new M12 Motorway active transport corridor. Part amenity, part artwork, the beautiful yet structurally complex forms highlight the diverse seasons of Dharug Country and required extensive parametric modelling to realise.

The ‘Float’, Stanhope Parkway
The ‘Float’, Stanhope ParkwayThis award-winning public art installation was delivered by FORGE at The Ponds in north-west Sydney. Developed in close creative collaboration with artists Milne & Stonehouse, a series of elegant engineering solutions were used to bring their initial concept sketches to life. Twelve large, inverted umbrellas are augmented by state-of-the-art lighting—making a bold statement on role of water in Sydney’s ever-changing climate.

Tank 101 at Ballast Point Park
Tank 101 at Ballast Point ParkSydney Harbour Foreshore Authority wanted to transform the former Ballast Point oil refinery site at Birchgrove into a panoramic public leisure location. In collaboration with McGregor Coxall, FORGE was contracted to reinvent the iconic Tank 101 (originally used by barge captains as a navigation landmark), creating structural steel sections painted in micaceous iron oxide and water-cut plates that formed letters from the Les Murray poem, ‘The Death of Isaac Nathan’.

-
What considerations go into art-integrated urban infrastructure?
We believe every art-integrated urban infrastructure project must be treated own its own merits. Central to this is gaining a deep up-front understanding of your unique aesthetic vision, and then overlaying this with key influencing factors such as your site, budget, timelines and aesthetic requirements. Time and again we see the most successful project outcomes when our team is engaged early in the development process.
-
Can FORGE create custom public art solutions to suit unique project requirements?
All of the public art installations FORGE delivers are custom. This means we work with you and your creative partners to create the exact solution you require, tailored to your specific objectives, vision and budget. -
What materials are suitable for outdoor art installations?
Every urban art installation is unique. Typically, the most suitable materials and finishes will be dictated by a variety of factors including the creative vision itself, the scale of the artwork and characteristics of the site. Durability, maintenance and public safety issues must also be considered. FORGE brings decades of experience working with an extensive range of natural and composite materials for public art installations.
-
Can FORGE outdoor art installations incorporate lighting, sound or other interactive elements?
Yes. We find that integrating sound, lighting and other interactive elements can be an excellent way to further engage a local community and heighten the way they experience a public structure or art installation. Of course, as with all design decisions the secret is to use interactive elements in ways that are relevant to your overall creative vision - and not merely a gimmick.
