7 bridge projects. 7 lessons in delivery certainty with FORGE.

There are many reasons to consider partnering with FORGE on your next community bridge project.

But rather than tell you about our in-house capability and processes, we thought it might be better to simply show you with seven of our more recent complex community bridge projects.

None of these amazing structures was straightforward to deliver. Each presented its own unique complexities and challenges—yet has been realised brilliantly through close collaboration between FORGE, our clients and specialist partners.

If you'd like to discuss any of these FORGE projects in more detail, please get in touch.

Project 1: Tamworth Regional Skywalk (Tamworth, NSW)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_tamworth_skywalk

COMPLEXITY: Scale, Community Scrutiny, Site Access, Environmental Sensitivities

The $18 million Tamworth Regional Skywalk is currently being delivered for Tamworth Regional Council. A large and complex network of access structures in a steep and environmentally sensitive site, the route spans almost 1.5 kilometres and features a 20-metre pedestrian bridge, concrete paths, interconnected boardwalks, an 84-metre elevated girder boardwalk and multiple viewing decks, all with a 121-metre vertical ascent and gradients of up to 33%.

Every stage of this challenging community project has required careful balance of community, accessibility and environmental considerations. Extensive parametric modelling and 3D simulations were used to guide alignment, span optimisation and standard compliance checks. Selective pre-assembly has also been used to minimise on-site works—improving constructability, cost certainty and design confidence.

Project 2: Kinbrook Pedestrian Bridge (Donnybrook, VIC)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_tamworth_kinbrook

COMPLEXITY: Environmental Sensitivities, Budget Constraints, Community Safety

Delivered for developer Moremac at Kinbrook—a busy multi-stage community 35 kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD—this complex bridge and boardwalk network spans Merri Creek, providing vital connections for local residents while also preserving the area's sensitive local wetlands.

FORGE was appointed following an invitation-only design and construct tender with project superintendent SMEC overseeing delivery. The approved design comprised of a 54-metre truss bridge based on FORGE's proprietary LONGREACH™ system, alongside a series of smaller 20 and 30-metre span structures. Integrated approach ramps on both sides of the creek were also delivered using our WATERSIDE™ boardwalk system.

Project 3: Hamilton Street Pedestrian Bridge (Horsham, VIC)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_tamworth_hamilton_street

COMPLEXITY: Scale, Geotechnical Challenges, Community Scrutiny

Stretching 73 metres across the Wimmera River in Horsham, this cable-stayed pedestrian bridge is the longest single-span structure FORGE has ever delivered. Connecting more than 2,000 residents and four schools to the town centre, the critical infrastructure project was delivered in a climate of intense community, media and stakeholder scrutiny for Horsham Rural City Council.

Extensive planning was undertaken during pre-construction stages, with geotechnical studies also conducted as part of preliminary works allowing us to refine the final designs before progressing to manufacturing and delivery.

FORGE's proprietary STIRLING™ cable-stayed bridge system was selected over arch and suspension alternatives due to its structural efficiency within the site's tight approach constraints. All pylons and substructure elements were pre-assembled off site to maximise quality and minimise disruption, with the final installation completed with millimetre precision over three days.

Project 4: Brickmakers Drive Pedestrian Bridge (Moorebank, NSW)

COMPLEXITY: Scale, Budget Constraints, Regulatory Approvals, Traffic Management

This was a critical and deceptively complex flood evacuation crossing providing safe passage for local residents across busy Brickmakers Drive. Liverpool City Council required the link to be built by Mirvac before approving a new land release and FORGE was engaged to develop a cost-effective alternative to an earlier all-concrete proposal. Several options were explored with our solution combining a 24-metre span LONGREACH™ truss bridge with 150 metres of approaches based on our proprietary BALMORAL™ boardwalk system. RMS compliance shaped key material decisions with steel framing, concrete decking and lightweight FRP allowing us to balance all structural, regulatory and commercial requirements. Far too large to be safely transported in one section, the main truss bridge was assembled on site and craned into position in one night, taking literally 10 minutes to bolt into its final position.

Project 5: Casino Suspension Bridge (Casino, NSW)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_casino

COMPLEXITY: Scale, Environmental Sensitivities, Site Access, Flooding Risk

Reaching 160 metres across the Richmond River in northern NSW, FORGE was appointed to deliver this significant suspension bridge for Richmond Valley Council following a competitive tender. As well as connecting the local community, the structure needed to serve as an important flood mitigation measure for a town that's no stranger to the destructive impact of fast-rising river waters.

Amongst several unique site challenges, careful scheduling was required to protect the region's migratory bat population with all site works paused during the summer months. FORGE's off-site pre-assembly methodology enabled the fabrication process to continue in the interim ensuring crews were able to return to the site in March 2026 to complete the final cabling and structural works.

Project 6: Dorrigo Swing Bridges (Dorrigo, NSW)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_dorrigo

COMPLEXITY: Environmental Sensitivities, Remote Site Access, Regulatory Approvals

Part of the $56.4 million Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk project, FORGE is currently delivering a network of five remote access bridges through Dorrigo National Park for the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The ambitious 46km multi-day walk traverses the Great Dividing Range through Gumbaynggirr Country and Gondwana rainforests and is seen as a critical step towards turning the region into a global ecotourism destination.

FORGE's scope includes the design and delivery of four cable-swing bridges with spans ranging from 20 to 35 metres and a separate 13-metre aluminium truss bridge near Bangalore Creek. All works are being completed in highly sensitive habitats and are subject to rigorous environmental and Aboriginal heritage controls.

Project 7: Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton Bridge (Shepparton, VIC)

FORGE_7_bridge_projects_aust_botanic_gardens

COMPLEXITY: Environmental Sensitivities, Regulatory Approvals, Treacherous Site Conditions, Earthquakes

This fully-custom suspension bridge and boardwalk network connects the 22.5 hectare Australian Botanic Gardens to the Shepparton town centre across the Broken River. Appointed by Greater Shepparton City Council following an open tender, FORGE managed the full design and construct process—from historical flood data analysis, geotechnical investigations and water authority approvals, to manufacturing, transportation and on-site installation. The orientation of the bridge was meticulously refined to preserve the established riverbank vegetation and native gum trees.

During construction, our site crews also overcame extraordinary challenges including treacherous ground conditions, repeated flooding, and a magnitude 6.0 earthquake striking mid-bridge lift as the 250-tonne crane's 70-metre boom was fully extended.
